Adding a Weather Station

There are two ways to add a weather station to this site:

Option 1

Ask an Admin

Contact the site administrator and provide your station details. They will set everything up for you.

Option 2

Do It Yourself

Register as a Station Owner and add your station through the website. Follow the steps below.

Step-by-Step Guide

You'll need to create an account or log in before you can register a station.
1

Find Your Station's PASSKEY

The PASSKEY is a unique identifier for your Ecowitt weather station. To find it:

  1. Open the Ecowitt app on your phone (or the WS View Plus app)
  2. Go to Device List and select your gateway (e.g. GW2000, GW3000)
  3. Tap the gear icon or More
  4. Look for Others or DIY Upload Servers
  5. Your PASSKEY is shown at the top of that screen

It looks something like: A7E0C19425B2B2725320D813C19BBCA4

2

Find Your Station's Location

You'll need the latitude and longitude of where your station is installed.

The easiest way:

  1. Open Google Maps on your phone or computer
  2. Find your station's location on the map
  3. On a phone: long-press on the exact spot. On desktop: right-click and choose "What's here?"
  4. The latitude and longitude will appear (e.g. 51.5874, -2.0825)

For the UK, latitude is typically around 50–56 and longitude is a small negative number.

3

Register Your Station on This Site

Log in first, then go to Register Station and fill in:

  • PASSKEY — from step 1
  • Station Name — e.g. "Crudwell Village" or "The Dawneys"
  • Latitude & Longitude — from step 2
  • If you have a river depth sensor, tick the box and fill in the river details

Your station will be created in a pending state until an admin approves it.

4

Configure Your Station to Send Data

Tell your Ecowitt gateway to send data to this site:

  1. Open the Ecowitt app and go to your gateway's settings
  2. Find Others or DIY Upload Servers or Customized
  3. Enable one of the custom server slots and enter:
    ProtocolEcowitt
    Serverhttps://riverlevels.org.uk
    Path/data/report
    Port443
    Upload interval60 seconds (recommended)
  4. Save the settings

Your station should start sending data within a minute or two.

5

Request Approval

Your station won't appear on the public map until an admin approves it. You can:

  • Check your station's status on the My Stations page — you should see data arriving
  • Contact the site administrator to request approval

Once approved, your station will appear on the map and be visible to everyone.

Supported Hardware

This site works with Ecowitt weather stations that have a Wi-Fi gateway, including:

The station must be connected to Wi-Fi and able to reach the internet.
